The luxurious surrounds of the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan were where this year's China Trader Award took place on 21st January. The event, organized by Cathay Pacific, announced SNATT Logistica, integrated logistic service company, as the winners with SOMACIS pcb industries - taking second place - and Xicili, trade and distribution company of typical Sicilian food products, third. Simonetta Scalmati, Communication & Image Manager, received the prize as the company representative from Tony Tyler - CEO of Cathay Pacific Airways - who had especially flown in from Hong Kong for the event.
Being elected and awarded amongst an array of companies, operating in the most diverse of sectors, is a great satisfaction for SOMACIS, and even more so for having been elected for dynamism and know-how, a description which perfectly characterizes the company.
Excellent amongst Italian excellence in China, as stated Silvia Tagliaferri, Commercial Director for Italy of Cathay Pacific Airways and brilliant host for the evening. The aim of the competition is to award Italian companies for their dynamism, innovation and creativity, companies which distinguish themselves in commercial, manufacturing and service industries with China and Hong Kong. Giving well earned visibility by awarding those who have reached particular goals and who promote the creation of synergy between companies working in the Chinese market.
The finalists were chosen by an illustrious jury made up of experts in economic and institutional relations between Italy, China and Hong Kong, or more precisely: Angela Alfarano, HKTDC (Hong Kong Trade Development Council) Director for Italy, Malta, Greece and Cyprus, Maurizio Dallocchio, Dean of SDA Bocconi Italian School of Management, Claudio Cornini, Head of Network Desk Antonveneta-ABN Amro Italy, Luigi Ratto, Vice President of the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce, Stefano De Paoli, President of Chinese Development and Silvia Tagliaferri, Commercial Director for Italy of Cathay Pacific Airways. The jury chose the participants based on the criteria of innovation, creativity, know-how and dynamism. SOMACIS pcb industries was recognized and rewarded for the following:

Some of the highlights of the evening… Silvia Tagliaferri declared to being highly satisfied with this the fifth edition of the China Trader Award which had an increase of 60% in participants.
Tony Tyler, who personally presented the awards to the prizewinners, underlined the fact that it was thanks to the enormous undertaking of the Italian companies in continually reinforcing industrial and commercial ties between the two Countries.
Key speeches during the event were given by: the Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong Alessandro De Pedys, Angela Alfarano, HKTDC (Hong Kong Trade Development Council) Director for Italy, Malta, Greece and Cyprus, Mario Boselli, Chairman of the Italian National Chamber of Fashion, Cavaliere del Lavoro, heavily involved in the promotion of “Made in Italy” in both Hong Kong and China, and Yue-Sai Kan, entrepreneur and philanthropist, probably one of the most well known business-women in China, Senator Sergio De Gregorio, leader of the political movement “Italians in the World”, and finally Rob Bradshaw, Cathay Pacific Country Manager for Italy.
A perfectly organized event became more interesting when, upon arrival, guests were provided with 'place-cards' with names of lesser known Chinese cities. As a novel way of improving local knowledge of China, guests were tasked with matching 'place-cards' to find their table for the evening. An original way for everyone to discover a little more about this vast and interesting Country.
2007 can be described as a busy and satisfying year for SOMACIS, 2008 really couldn't have started in a more positive way having received this award. It represents further recognition of the high level of technological know-how and business that the group has attained and confirms the position of excellence it holds today, not only in the field of electronics.
